The route
From Schaffhausen, the road crosses into Germany and heads into the Black Forest via Blumberg, then reaches Lake Titisee and climbs towards the Feldberg. The route alternates long forest curves with stretches across the high plateaus, up to the Feldberg pass at 1,231 m.
Not to be missed
The Rhine Falls in Schaffhausen before setting off, Lake Titisee, and the summit of the Feldberg (1,493 m), reached from the pass, with a view as far as the Alps on a clear day.
Good to know
In Germany, speed limits on country roads are strictly enforced, and wildlife often crosses in the forest, especially at dawn and dusk.
Opening dates depend on snow: always check road conditions before setting off (TCS, viasuisse or the Italian and French road authorities).
