The route
The climb to the Forclaz, at 1,527 m, starts in the Martigny vineyards with a wide view over the Rhône valley. After Trient and the Le Châtelard border, the Col des Montets, at 1,461 m, opens onto the Chamonix valley and the north face of Mont Blanc.
Not to be missed
The Forclaz viewpoint over the Rhône plain, the Trient glacier and the arrival at Argentière, with the Aiguille Verte and Mont Blanc straight ahead.
Good to know
A short route, ideal for half a day or a first outing. The Chamonix valley is busy in high season: go in the morning.
Opening dates depend on snow: always check road conditions before setting off (TCS, viasuisse or the Italian and French road authorities).
